Open Back vs Solid Back

Precious metal rings often have the option of the space behind the face being hollow, filled or somewhere in between. This saves weight and in turn cost. Modern gold prices make the savings significant. Most gold rings come in two varieties, open back and solid back. Open back means that the space behind the face of the ring is hollow. This makes the ring cheaper by using less precious metal. Solid back means that the ring is solid behind the face. You may also see other designations such as partial back, hollow back and concave back which are all variations of open back. Most rings that are open backed are marked as such but if you are not sure, just ask. Our Fully customizable collection of rings is completely solid back.
